چکیده

After road construction in steep and mountainous areas, there is always a risk for trench failure. Estimation of this probability before forest design urgent. Besides, to decrease failures costs risks, it necessary classify their occurrence probabilities identify the factors affecting them. The present study compares three statistical models logistic regression, frequency ratio, maximum entropy. robust one was applied generate susceptibility map roads two watersheds Northern Iran. Also, all repairing were estimated, subsequently, existing surveyed area, detecting 844 failures. Among recorded failures, 591 random cases (70%) used modeling, others (30%) as validation data. digital layers, including failure locations, prepared. Three maps simulated using outputs mentioned methods GIS environment. resulted combined with repair cost prices analyzed statistically evaluate unit per meter square results showed that regression model had an Area Under Curve (AUC) 74.6% identifying failure-sensitive areas. probabilistic ratio Entropy 68.2 65.5% accuracy, respectively. Based on model, distance faults terrain slope highest effects trenches According result, about 43.25% network located »high« »very high« risky estimated regulating profiling ditches along approximately 108,772 $/km.

The Effect of Forest Road Construction on Soil Organic Carbon Stock in Mountainous Catchment in Northern Iran

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of forest road construction on the Soil Organic Carbon Stock (SOCS) in Ziarat Catchment. Therefore, soil samples were collected from five land use types including road construction, cultivated area, channel bank, pasture and forest land and soil organic carbon concentration and bulk density were measured in the samples and SOCS were...

Environmental impacts of forest road construction on mountainous terrain

Forest roads are the base infrastructure foundation of forestry operations. These roads entail a complex engineering effort because they can cause substantial environmental damage to forests and include a high-cost construction. This study was carried out in four sample sites of Giresun, Trabzon(2) and Artvin Forest Directorate, which is in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The areas have both st...

Geochemical characterization of the forest loess soils along a precipitation gradient in Northern Iran

Introduction: The loess-paleosol sequences in Northern Iran are important archives represent several cycles of Quaternary climate change and can be used to complete the information gap on loess between Europe and central Asia. Loess geochemistry reflects paleoweathering conditions and it can be used to determine the nature and provenance of loess deposits. In the Caspian Lowlands, a pronounced...

An Integrative Decision Support Tool for Assessing Forest Road Options in a Mountainous Region in Romania

Nacrtak Sound development of forest infrastructure represents the backbone for sustainable forest management. However, planning forest roads, which nowadays must fulfill multiple conflicting objectives, is not an easy task. A GIS based model was developed for supporting decision making in forest road engineering. The tool allowed assessment of forest infrastructure scenarios based on multiple c...

Forest road design combining common design techniques and GIS (Case Study: 2nd series of Liresar Forest)

Nowadays, it is necessary to apply modern techniques for the design of road networks, especially roads passing through ecosystems such as forests, in order to reduce operating costs, prevent further degradation of the environment, increase road efficiency and achieve sustainable development goals. In this paper, a new way of designing the road is presented. New design method has the ability to ...
